The Tall Poppy Guide to Beating Negativity at Work
So get the better of it, don’t join the pity party and decide to be cheerful – you’ll be amazed how powerful it feels. A few tips to help you along your way:
1: When you hear others moaning, walk the other way or simply get your head down – don’t join in!
2: Imagine you are in a bubble of your own that is invisible and surrounds every inch of you that nobody can penetrate from outside. Every time your colleague moans, visualise those negative comments bouncing off the bubble back to the speaker – they can’t touch you.
2: Be Sure Why You’re Here: Remember that you’re at work to fulfil your personal goals and to do a job. Place a picture that reflects your goals somewhere prominent in your work area – it may be a holiday shot or a picture of your family. Keep referring to it when others start to moan to remind yourself of your purpose.
Go on, raise your head and put a smile on your face – you’ll find it’s catching.
