West Yorkshire slimmer sheds over 3 stone to perform as a singer and dancer once again
An embarrassing incident in the changing room of a clothes shop when Karen, who was a size 18, had to be helped by three sales assistant out of a dress she was trying on, spurred on Karen to join her local Rosemary Conley Diet and Fitness Club. Just six months later, Karen had succeeded in shedding 3st 3lb to become a svelte size 10 and now weighs 9st 11lb.
As well as giving Karen the confidence to perform once again as a dancer and singer, losing weight has given Karen a new part-time career as a Rosemary Conley instructor. “It keeps me trim and I love passing on what I’ve learned,” says Karen, who, before she lost weight, was still wearing her maternity clothes years after the children were born.
As well as wanting to lose weight for herself, Karen did not want to be a fat mum to her two children, aged six and three. “Kids can be cruel and I didn’t want mine to stand out or suffer because of me,” says Karen. “Also, I wanted to be able to do things with them as they grew, not puff along behind or watch from the sidelines.”
Karen, who has performed for Elton John and danced in shows in the West End and around the world, is now enjoying performing again. After she had lost weight, Karen was asked to appear in Victoria Wood’s 2009 TV Christmas Special – in a fat suit, as they wanted a larger lady! “I felt so relieved when I could take it off. It really brought it home to me how much I’d lost!” says Karen. “I’ve had six gigs since I lost weight and I’m now preparing my own evening of musical-theatre songs.”

The past several weeks may have resulted in getting a lot done, but they weren't much fun. Consequently, you're likely to be grateful that the Sun's move into Gemini and a different portion of your chart has broken up that unrelenting pattern. Soon, in fact, you'll be so busy you'll forget all those trials. By Shelley von Strunckel
