Frosty air and icy winds, central heating, woolly hats – winter weather can take its toll on your locks leaving them lacklustre, dry and frizzy. Ahkeem Yussuf, a member of the KMS UK Art Team and hairdresser at Elements Salon in Teddington, shares his tips for keeping your tresses in tip-top condition throughout the colder months.

1. Book in a gloss service between colour appointments. It will help to freshen your colour and improve the condition of your hair – a great way to brighten dull locks during winter.
2. Use a gentle soft brush to massage shampoo thoroughly onto your scalp before rinsing to help get rid of dry skin and loose hairs.
3. Revitalising treatments are great for reviving stressed winter locks. A deep treatment will help to replace lost moisture and make your hair more manageable. Try KMS California Moistrepair duo, which consists of Moistrepair therapy treatment and Moistrepair revival crème. Apply the therapy treatment and leave it on for 10 minutes, wrapping a warm towel around your head will allow all the good stuff to penetrate deeper into your hair. To protect hair on a daily basis apply the revival crème to dried or towel-dried hair. This will help to restore moisture balance and improve manageability
4. During winter most of us are wrapped up in scarves and hats, which can cause a lot of flyaway hairs when removed. Use a product such as KMS California Hairstay anti-humidity seal, which shields your hair from frizz for up to 24 hours.
5. Book in regular visits to the salon during the winter months. Keeping your hair trimmed is one of the best ways to keep it in optimum condition.
